The Annual Kentucky River Regional Animal Shelter Horse show is usually held on a Saturday in September and is held at the Perry County Park Horse Ring. This year will be our 9th Annual. Funds raised are used to help with shelter expenses.

The Buckhorn Lake and surrounding area offers a wide variety of outdoor recreation opportunities. Visit this large day use recreation area located near Buckhorn Dam and spend some time relaxing in the great outdoors. The recreation area has a large picnic area with three shelters, a playground, fishing areas and water fountains. The Corps, in cooperation with the Commonwealth of Kentucky manages the land and water for wildlife, fisheries and recreation.
Buckhorn Lake offers over 1,230 acres of water at summer pool for anglers. Buckhorn Lake is home to largemouth and Kentucky bass, crappie, bluegill, channel catfish, and Muskie. The marina has 95 open slips, two launching ramps, rental pontoon boats, and fishing boats. Open April – October.
From April through November the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife regularly stocks the stilling basin, just below the dam, with trout. Our Daily Lake Information Line, which includes daily recorded fishing reports, lake elevations and upcoming events and other messages, can be reached by calling 606-398-7157.
An Interpretative Hiking Trail is available at Buckhorn Lake Dam site. A Hiking Trail is available at Tailwater Recreation Area.
